About Me!

About Me!

Who am I?

Well, my names Brendan, I’m a 29-year-old knitter from Perth, Western Australia. My knitting story will come after this, but I just wanted to start by introducing myself as a person, as a human and individual. I’ll also include a little bit about my knitting because that’s probably important to mention…

So, for those who don’t know where I live, I live in Perth. A few quick facts about Perth. I recently discovered that it is the sunniest capital city in the world, it’s one of the windiest capital cities in the world and is home to arguably the cutest animal in the world (the quokka). If you don’t know what a quokka is then I have added a photo for your enjoyment!

I’m a big fan of Perth. It’s where I was born and raised and although I have travelled a fair bit throughout my twenties, I still think where I live is one of the nicest places there is. Of course, I am probably biased, and most people say this about where they live, but Perth is a chilled place, isolated and a great mix of coastal and land-based nature. Being a hidden gem definitely works in our favour!

So, we’ve talked a little bit about where I live, I should probably introduce myself as a person and knitter a bit more. We will start from the start. In general, I’m not the most motivated or active person. However, since discovering knitting I feel like I am more motivated when it comes to knitting and trying new things, but I am still lazy when it comes to the “business” side of life like releasing patterns or content. I sit here, right now, in my bed, writing this article and it’s the 13th of April. By the time I actually release this it’ll probably be the 30th of April… I am a person that enjoys the idea of things rather than actually delivering on it and it’s something that I have to work on. VERY VERY HARD! In saying that, I feel like I have good intentions and the right intentions, I just need someone to give me a bit of a push to get things done.

I wrote that last bit to highlight my laziness, but I think it comes down to confidence and not being the most confident in myself. That’s where knitting comes into it all. Knitting was never meant to be my outlet or saving grace, it just magically turned into that. For me, knitting doesn’t feel like a chore (unless I’m releasing patterns or content) and it has made me feel like a productive individual. Being able to put time into something and then admiring a physical product at the end of it all is a super rewarding part of knitting and something that motivates me to keep going. The other aspect is building my confidence as a human and the support that I have received as a knitter. I think this is probably the greatest thing that knitting has given me. Prior to knitting, I was a very self-conscious person, not confident and just not motivated. Away from knitting I would still say I am somewhat the same person but with my knitting, I feel like I am a different person and a person that can add value to other people’s lives.

I’m not much of a writer and throughout school it was definitely my weak point but hopefully I can make this platform one where I can better my skills as a writer, divulge a little bit about me as a person, provide a place where I can talk about myself and what I am up to, and connect with other like-minded people or crafters! In later posts I’ll talk about the wellness aspect of knitting and how it’s helped me but for now, hopefully I’ve introduced you to a little bit of myself as an individual and what knitting is able to give me.
